Description
League of Legends is a MOBA (massively online battle arena) game inspired by Dota, itself a MOBA with a huge following.
Each team has a stronghold called a Nexus. Much of the gameplay involves each team trying to gain access to the opposing team's Nexus, requiring tactical thinking from the first move to the last. This is especially true for Rift's Summoner, the main game mode. See more details on the game modes below. The game's visuals are somewhat reminiscent of an online board game in some respects.
A well-thought-out player spread is the best way to play in most game modes, and a single play session can last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.
There are some members of the LOL (League of Legends, don't laugh out loud here!) community who can be a little mean, especially towards newcomers to the game, but if you muscle through their ranks you'll soon be teaming up with the good guys – and there are infinitely more of those!
Summoner Rift: (Main game mode) Play 5v5 in teams trying to attack each other's Nexus. You'll fight through the jungle, where monsters spawn regularly (giving gold and boosts when killed, but otherwise just being a nuisance to you) along three lanes and a river where an even more powerful monster lives. The river is the divide between yours and theirs, so defeating this monster means you're now in the other team's territory. ARAM: (All Random All Mid) This mode is a five-on-five game like Summoner Rift, but it only has one lane, no jungle, and your champions are randomly selected for you. Teamfight tactics: You place your heroes before the battle begins, then you sit back and watch as they fight automatically from there without any further input from you. Nexus Blitz: Fun if you only have a short time to play. In this mode, you drop out on a small battlefield, playing a series of minigames. League of Legends is taking MOBA gaming to the next level for fans of the genre.
About the Game
The game is simple, especially for fans of the genre. Two teams of five champions face off in PvP (player versus player), each defending their own half of the map. Each player controls a champion with unique weapons and abilities. There are a staggering 156 heroes to choose from, and your chosen hero can upgrade by earning XP (experience points), obtaining better weapons, more power, and winning other perks. Each team has a stronghold called a Nexus. The Nitty Gritty
The beautifully designed game features brilliant graphics and a fantastic soundtrack, with each level incorporating elements from different horror-fantasy genres, from Lovecraftian tent-pole horror to more old-school barbarian sword-and-sorcery scenarios. There are some members of the LOL (League of Legends, don't laugh out loud here!) community who can be a little mean, especially towards newcomers to the game, but if you muscle through their ranks you'll soon be teaming up with the good guys – and there are infinitely more of those!
