Hogwarts Legacy for PC is a single-player action-adventure role-playing game based on the Harry Potter universe, in which the player takes on the role of a newcomer to the enchanted castle so beloved by fans of the book and film franchise.

About the Game

This game is set in the late 1800s, so there's no overlap with any characters from the movie and book canon, though some of the ghosts you know and love may appear to guide you on your way—or hinder and delay you, if you annoy them!

Unique – and central – to this game are the NCPs (non-player characters) Victor Rookwood (who is the kind of pre-Voldemort leader of the Dark Wizards – precursors to the Death Eaters), Professor Eleazar Fig who is your teacher and ally, and the delightfully evil rebel goblin leader, Ranrok, who trusts no human and especially no wizard!

You're a student about to begin your fifth year who transfers to Hogwarts from elsewhere following a mysterious incident. It slowly emerges that you hold the key to an ancient secret that could tear the wizarding world apart.

Ranrok hates all wizards, but he's teamed up with Rookwood to gain control of an ancient magic. An ancient magic so dangerous that wizardkind has sought to hide it from itself—and you, unexpectedly, turn out to be the one wizard who holds the key to unleashing this ancient magic!

It goes without saying that Rookwood is in danger if Ranrok succeeds, but Rookwood is dangerous enough in its own right. You, as a student, must work with Fig to keep the magic secret and prevent a goblin rebellion...

The Nitty Gritty

You'll attend classes in Charms, Herbology, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Potions, all aimed at saving wizarding civilization. Between classes, you'll be able to explore much further than just the castle. The Hidden Forest, Hogsmeade, and Gringotts Bank are all accessible and fully explorable.

The open-world setting will change with the seasons, and you'll be able to choose your home and customize your character in a variety of ways, including voice, body type, gender, and wand selection. All of this adds up to a unique and unique gaming experience for every player.

As noted above, the game is open world and positively requires exploration as you interact with NCPs like Nearly Headless Nick, Peeves the poltergeist—who is known and loved by readers of the books but never made it into the movies, though a part was filmed for the first film, starring the late, great Rik Myall—and the Fat Lady, who guards the Gryffindor dormitories.

The Room of Requirement is also present in the game and serves a much broader purpose than previously seen. Players can customize it to their needs and preferences, and it functions as a sort of common room, allowing them to grow plants, conduct research, and modify the customization as needed.

The game's built-in morality system will allow aspiring villains to face the curse of murder if they dare, or you can befriend everyone you meet – including classmates who will grow and develop alongside you, offering helpful assistance in difficult times.

There are no microtransactions in the game: everything you get will be earned the hard way, there are no shortcuts for the rich to take and get ahead.

Fantastic Beasts and How to Care for Them

Caring for Magical Creatures is a must as you will be interacting, caring for, and even fighting using:

• Dragons: Never mind the ban on dragon breeding, at Hogwarts you can raise your own pet incinerator that you can ride, cuddle, and fight. Just don't forget to feed them.
• Nifflers: The cute and cuddly mole-platypuses are back again, pulling on anything shiny and simultaneously annoying and fascinating you.
• Trolls: More animalistic than humanoid in this game, trolls are firmly in the creature camp rather than the wizard camp here.
• Hippogriffs: Buckbeak (aka Witherwings) and co. return to terrify and delight you, as well as being gleefully useful in the battle stakes with sharp claws and a fearsome beak to put to good use against your enemies.
• Mandrakes: Technically plants, but considering their roots are screeching and intensely grumpy children, they fall under the "magical creatures" umbrella. Use ear defenders when potting them and unleash them on your enemies when you're in trouble.
