Fortnite

Fortnite is an online video game available in three modes. Initially, the first game mode (Fortnite: Save the World) was released and made little progress. Battle Royale mode was then released, making Fortnite the most popular game in the world, winning awards every year since its release. It remains one of the most popular games around today.

Game Information

In Battle Royale, you can play alone, in duos, or in a squad of 3 or 4, and you can even win as a team. This game mode is the most popular. The other modes are Save the World and Creative: see the last section for details on the three game modes.

In all games, you start from scratch, with nothing but the bare essentials. You search around and gather seemingly random resources, and you come across a pickaxe. Very quickly, you can use your pickaxe to gather wood, stone, and metal, usually by demolishing existing structures you encounter, but also by attacking others.

You can then reuse these elements for walls, floors, or stairs, which are limitations, but they're enough to get what you need. Often, you'll just need a set of stairs to access a remote resource, or a wall to hide behind—you don't need to build huge buildings (but you can if you want!)

Things to know

Master the art of building quickly, on the fly, to truly enjoy all the benefits this game has to offer. Building while fighting can net you a lot of victories, so much so that you might even prefer building to shooting in some battles. For example, instead of shooting at other players' walls while hiding behind your own, sneak up on them, build ladders to climb, and ambush them! Sneaky, but satisfying!

There's a lot of violence in the game, but it's cartoonish and non-threatening, with no gory or violent scenes. This makes it a great game for both older and younger players.

Three ways to play

There are three game modes for Fortnite:

Battle Royale: In this iteration of the game, up to 100 people compete to be the last man standing. Players are parachuted from the battle bus and must quickly scavenge for weapons and resources! The longer you play and survive, the fewer other players will remain, but the map shrinks accordingly, so you can't hide and hope others kill each other. Fortnite: Save the World: This is a cooperative hybrid game that combines a third-person shooter, a tower defense game, and a survival game! It's PvE with four players working together after a storm kills 98% of the population, leaving "wretches" (essentially zombies) who attack any human survivors. Gather resources, save other survivors, and have fun with this fairly simple RPG. Creative: This is a more open-world, sandbox-style game where you can create worlds, race courses, and battle arenas to your liking. If you like Minecraft, you'll love this too. You have a private, persistent island you build on, so no one can break out and destroy your painstaking work. You can also invite friends to your island to test out your jump routes or race tracks. Fortnite is a great game, whether you want to be the last man standing or the king of your castle.
