Anthem

Anthem for PC is a multiplayer online role-playing game set on an unknown and unnamed planet. Characters, called Freelancers, wear suits that help them protect their city from outside threats.

The Anthem of Creation, from which the game takes its name, is the source of the planet's technology and phenomena, as well as its threats. It is a mysterious but powerful force, and as such, it is often the target of those who wish to exploit its wondrous powers for their own purposes—usually evil. The villain, the Monitor, seeks to steal the Anthem, and it's up to your character to stop him.

Game Information

The suits worn by Freelancers are called Javelins, and there are four in total. Players start with the same standard suit and can later unlock the others:

Ranger: Also known as the "master of all-around combat," this is a great, durable suit that will keep you safe and help you survive. Colossus: This is the bulkiest suit and, not surprisingly, also the slowest. But it's also the most durable, making it absolutely ideal for tough situations where speed is the least of your concerns. Interceptor: This is the lightest and fastest suit, ideal for Freelancers who specialize in lightning-fast melee attacks and guerrilla-style ambushes. Storm: This suit features minimal armor, but can stay airborne longer and unleash attacks using elemental energy to blast enemies from a (relatively) safe distance.

Old technology can be good or bad

Fort Tarsis is the central hub of the game, a meeting place within the walled city. The city must be fortified, because it's not just enemies trying to attack it: in ancient times, the Anthem was used to create prototypes of advanced technology, some of which have become unstable or malfunctioning over time.

These unstable devices power up randomly and the results can be uncertain for the population: sometimes they warp, which is great, opening a portal to new lands to explore and exploit, but in other cases they spawn hybrids of creatures that attack the Freelancers.

Good to know

When you first get a Javelin, it's old and dirty, and you have no way to customize or clean it. You'll have to complete the first level before you can clean it, which is a huge improvement. However, the Javelin will still have dents and scratches. It will become old and clean, rather than old and dirty, but that certainly doesn't make it brand new!

Improve your "reputation" by leveling up, and your kit will gradually improve along with your skills! Your reputation can be improved by playing in world events, finding new areas on the map, and discovering hidden locations, as well as taking part in certain battles and quests.

Tomb of the Legionnaires. This is a Herculean mission where you must complete a total of fifteen tasks, such as collecting items twenty-five times in a specific area or taking part in fifty melee attacks. Use Cortex (essentially a library of all your game data) to track your progress and find incentive to keep playing!

Take a moment to enjoy the view. The unnamed planet is beautifully rendered, filled with cities and forests, and we recommend taking a moment to look around and appreciate the level of craftsmanship that went into creating this landscape.
